Spotify Removes Over 50 Million AI-Generated Spam Tracks
Spotify says it has purged over 50 million AI‑generated slop and spam tracks from user recommendations and is adjusting its system to favor human artists.

Spotify disclosed on Tuesday that it has removed more than 50 million songs classified as AI‑generated slop or spam from its recommendation engine over the past year. The cleanup targets tracks that were flooding user playlists and undermining the listening experience.
In addition to the massive deletion, the streaming service announced changes to its recommendation algorithms. The updated system will give greater visibility to music created by human artists, aiming to restore a more authentic curation for listeners.
Spotify’s editorial team will apply the same standards used for the new algorithmic filters, ensuring that both human‑curated and AI‑assisted recommendations meet consistent quality criteria.
The move reflects growing concerns across the industry about the proliferation of low‑quality AI‑generated content and its impact on both creators and audiences.
