The latest shot-scraper release adds native WebP screenshot capability, offering size‑efficient images with optional quality settings.
The open‑source screenshot automation tool shot-scraper has been updated to version 1.12, introducing native WebP support. Users can now generate a WebP image of any web page with a simple command, for example:
``bash shot-scraper https://simonwillison.net -o screenshot.webp --quality 80 ``
The --quality flag controls compression; omitting it produces a lossless WebP file. In tests, WebP screenshots are consistently smaller than comparable JPEG or PNG files, as demonstrated in the associated pull request.
